April 21st, 2008. Rebecca went to South Beach with her siblings and cousins, to a Jewish singles party on Passover referred to as the “Matzah Ball”. David, in town with his family, was also there with some of his brothers after nearly going elsewhere!

Rebecca didn’t want to just stick with her crew as usual and was determined to branch out and maybe meet someone. After nobody happened to catch her interest, she decided she was giving up. Her sister-in-law Danielle then told her to look over at some cute guy who she thought was totally Rebecca’s taste. Rebecca looks over and sees him lounging on a couch, by himself, wearing a suit, a colorful kippah, and smoking a cigar. Rebecca was nervous and didn’t quite know how she’d ever approach this guy.

Then David was waving his hand side to side to the beat of the music and so she boldly decided to also wave her hand in sync from across the way, and so went their first exchange. Then she was too nervous and started walking away, until she was stopped by someone. It was David’s brother Shloimy who had witnessed the wave and, outgoing as he is, asked if Rebecca knew David. She said no, but while she was stopped David had meanwhile got up to start dancing again. David had seen this beautiful girl smile and he liked the positive, sweet energy in that brief moment, but he too was pretty reserved about meeting people and so he almost did nothing about it. But then he was up and soon Rebecca and David were dancing and exchanged a few words before two big guys (her big brothers, David later found out) came over to walk her out of the club. David asked for her number, the next day they had a great phone call and asked each other all sorts of weighty questions, and they set up a date.

Turns out David had extended his trip because his cousin was coming down, and so they got to go on several dates before David had to leave. Rebecca and David felt something special, and when it came time to talk about the fact that they lived far from each other, David promised he’d try hard to make it work. Turns out a month later David was already set to come back down to Florida with some friends, and turns out he was staying a 10 minute walk away from Rebecca’s parents. What followed was a lot of phone calls, trips to Miami and New York City, and 8 months later David moves to Miami.

A little over a year later, Rebecca and David are so in love and ready to spend the rest of their lives together.
